The Northern Edit

I normally wouldn’t answer a WordPress writing prompt on this blog, but the topic couldn’t be more perfect! I love to read. I love to write. Of course I have imagined what the perfect space for reading and writing would be!

For starters, I would want lots of space for books. Imagine those awesome bookshelves with the rolling ladders. A dark oak would be beautiful. Think Belle in Beauty and the Beast. 3 out of 4 walls covered with bookshelves and books sounds about right to me!

I’d love a lot of natural light and plants to keep the space cheerful, but I’d love moody dark green walls. The caveat in this design would be to keep the plants alive; this is something I’ve never been very good at. I think a nice gas fireplace would be great too. It would be a nice room feature as well as practical to keep cozy and warm.

I’d love a big oak desk with drawers for my writing and files. A place to use my laptop and spread out when needed. I suppose I would need a lamp or two to read at night. Just something basic, but a bulb that dims is a must! I’d also love some comfy chairs and a nice plush couch. I’m not big on pillows, but one or two decorative pillows would be nice. There would need to be at least two super soft blankies though! It’s always nice to lay down and read a book on a comfortable sofa.

There you have it! My dream work space for reading and writing. I feel like my vision is borrowed from a previous time, perhaps the Victorian age? I doubt modern design lovers would dig it, but to each their own! I hope you enjoyed reading.
